One of the reasons I love living in the Pacific Northwest is the scenery. It’s gorgeous. Unbelievable. In the spring/summer, everything is so green it’s almost unreal. In the fall, there are so many beautiful colors. We haven’t experienced winter here yet, but I’m sure it will be worth mentioning as well. I don’t think I have ever seen as many waterfalls in one area in my life. So many rivers. It’s a photographer’s dream really.

We had family in town over the holiday, and decided they *had* to see the Columbia River Gorge area. So, we left Portland and drove the Historic Columbia River Highway. It was chilly outside, as this is late November, but the weather was beautiful. With two young children in the car, we didn’t make as many stops as we would have liked to, but we still had a wonderful time. At Multnomah Falls, we stopped and ate at the Lodge, and of course visited the gift shop below. We got a great table near the fireplace with a view of the falls. I must say, their garden burgers are great as well.

Here are some photos at a few random stops along the highway. I’m hoping to get out that way again in the winter- I can just imagine how beautiful everything is with the snow covered trees, etc.

I know a lot of photographers who aren’t necessarily “fans” of photographing toddlers. I must admit it is a difficult age. Not just to photograph, but in general. I know. I have one. This little girl was about the same age as my own, and seriously reminded me of my daughter. Except not as loud. :)

I must admit, I LOVE photographing toddlers. Yes, they can be difficult at times, but not intentionally- it’s just part of being a toddler. They are so fun to interact with, each with their own unique personality. I’ve had *many* parents tell me that they have avoided bringing their child to get photographed because they are difficult/at a difficult age/etc. So, those of you who think you have a difficult child, and have been avoiding a photo session because of it- bring them on over- it will be better than you think! I promise.

I love toddlers. They are so fun. I have one myself ;) It’s an age where they learn SO much, so fast. They move pretty fast as well! These two were so cute, and definitely had their own little personalities. Here’s a few to share for now..

The studio is officially open!

November 16, 2009

Now that it is officially rainy season here in the Pacific Northwest, I wanted to let everyone know that I am now scheduling studio sessions (in West Linn). I only have a few more spots left before the holiday deadline, and after that it will be maternity and newborns only until the new year.

This post would not be complete without sharing some photos. Here’s a session I had with two adorable kids who were so much fun, and definitely knew what they liked as far as music :)

I hope everyone is having a wonderful fall. The colors are GORGEOUS here in Oregon, and my kids are loving the leaves everywhere. My son was so excited to bring home different color leaves from school. He hasn’t seen the color change in the last couple years we have been in southern California!

We, of course, went to the pumpkin patch and had a blast. My daughter is apparently not too fond of the big pumpkins in large groups- so that was interesting to say the least! Also, yesterday we went to Wilderness Park in West Linn to play in the leaves and walk the trails. It’s a beautiful park, and I highly recommend it. The kids LOVED it. My daughter would chase after anyone walking their dog, my son wanted to make the biggest leaf pile ever (which, of course, his little sister would not allow this to happen ;) ). It’s a great place to go with the family and just walk around, check out the nature and beauty of the area.

Also, we have officially reached 100 fans on facebook, so the drawing for the free session will be tonight! If you want to be included, you still have until this evening to become a fan. I’m so excited and I would like to say thanks to all fans- also, keep checking back for more news and specials from Photography by Amber.

Here’s some quick photos from the pumpkin patch and playing in the leaves (mainly my daughter, a post for my son will be soon, there’s big news for him I can’t wait to share!)

If you have small children, I would HIGHLY suggest getting one of the Radio Flyer Wagons like the one my daughter is in below..SO great, and she prefers it over the stroller.
